The winners of the Moscow Open 2010 have been defined!
The International Moscow Open 2010 ended on Saturday which was held at the Russian State Social University from January 30 till February 7.
The international grand master Konstantin Chernyshov from Voronezh won the main tournament of the festival. This is a great success for a player from Voronezh – he was only 46th in the start list of the championship. In the last tour he scored a tie with Vietnamese Le Liem and finished off the tournament with 7 points. Le Qang Liem, the multiple Olympic champion of the Russian team Evgeny Bareev and aspirant of RSSU the bronze medalist of Moscow Open 2009 Ernesto Inarkiyev showed the same results. According to additional indexes the silver medalist is the Vietnamese grand master and the bronze – Evgeny Bareev. 11 players lacked half a point and shared the positions from 5 to 15.
The prize money of the main tournament made up 2 500 000 rubles, from which the winner got 500 000.
The victory in the women’s event shared the Georgian Salome Melia and Nazi Paikidze scoring 7,5 points each. In the last tour they beat their rivals: Melia beats Zhao Xue from China and Paikidze – the Russian Valentina Gunina. According to tie-breaks the winner is 16 year old Nazi Paikidze, the Europe and world champion among girls, representing the Georgian chess federation. Since 2006 Paikidze lives in Moscow.
Zhao Xue as well as Baira Kovanova (Saratov), Darya Pustovoitova and Marina Romanko (both from Moscow) who won the games in the last tour and scored 7 points each, shared the positions 3-6. According to tie-breaks Kovanova won the bronze.
The prize money of the tournament “Open C” made up 500 000 rubles. The winner got 150 000.
In the Amateur tournament which was open for all chess players with rankings under 2300 the winner is David Shahinyan from Armenia. In the last tour he scored a fast tie and finished off with 8,5 points out of 9 and got 64 000. Alexander Kotov was the second scoring 8 points and Nikolay Krivonos with 7,5 was the third (both Russians).
The two-time USSR champion Vitaly Tseshkovsky from Krasnodar is the first in the tournament of veterans. In the last tour he beat Alexander Zakharov (Rostov-na-Donu) and scored 7,5 points. Evgeny Vasyukov (Moscow) and Vladimir Onoprienko (Noyabrsk) shared the second-third places scoring the tournament with 7 points each. The tie-breaks ranged them in this order.
The whole prize fund of the tournament mad up 650 000 rubles, the winner got 65 000.
